"Serena!"

Serena jumped at Danielle's shout. "What?"

"I've been calling you for the past minute. Where were you? Pass me that folder."

Serena complied. "Sorry. I was just thinking."

"Obviously. What about? Jack?"

"Kind of. Just something that Ed said when I was talking to him."

"Which was? There's not going to be a problem with him investigating is there? Any grudges or-"

"No, no, nothing like that. He said that he'd help us out and follow the evidence."

"Which is what I expect him to do. So what's the problem?"

"Something he said about the evidence."

"Serena! Stop beating around the bush!"

"Sorry. He said that he'd follow the evidence no matter where it leads."

Danielle waited, expecting more. Nothing came. "So?"

"Well, he brought up the point that the evidence may lead where we don't want it to."

"Meaning that Jack did it?"

"Basically. I mean, what if he really did do it? I don't think he did, but what if? There's a lot of inconsistencies with the report he gave. And someone saw him coming out of Diana's apartment. They used to go together, back when."

"And he broke it off, not her." Danielle paused. "What would be his motive? Pent up anger after all these years? It just doesn't fit."

"I know. But still, makes you wonder."
