So???? Rules 1. Get into the blog as someone living in, or concerned with the doings of the Manhatten's DA office, the NY governor's office, or things going on in the world that L&O could possibly do a rfth episode from. 2. If you see something in the news, that could be a rfth episode, start by commenting on the occurance, as it would happen in the L&O world. Comment on things the DA might say, the governor, what some L&O cop has done, etc. 3. Feel free to "quote" from the NY Ledger! 4. Feel free to "quote" L&O characters 5. Comment one way or the other (you could make up blog posters or bloggers who are anti McCoy, or pro McCoy, for example) on the characters and/or episodes, AS someone in their fictional universe, of course! This won't be a blog to make comments on any particular episode as a viewer. Anyone else got any ideas for rules?

Just moved to Manhattan, from Buffalo, NY, via Cornell. A little history....I'm 30ish, female,dating Wonderful Guy, managed an ad agency's Buffalo office for a few years after graduating with an English degree of some sort from Penn State (vaguely remember reading a lot of Wharton, Dickens, DickenSON, and Thoreau, and writing a lot of papers on same). Majored more in Rolling Rock and Yingling, I'm afraid. But, it was enough to get me a nice job in advertising and I became a lady in grey flannel (hey, its cold in Buffalo!). Worked on projects for Gennesee Cream Ale, Labatt's Beer, Seagrams, and, not that I worked only in booze, Rich's Foods, and Jimmy Fucillo car dealerships ("Its HUUUUUUGE!"). Got a transfer and promotion to Manhatten, can't say what agency, (Ok, I could but then I'd have to kill you), but it pays very well, gets me great perks, and a chance to meet and greet a lot of VIP's. My comments on life in NY, people, places, eats, plays, whatever and whoever, contained in following blog. Feel free to comment. Manahatter April 2, 2008. Ok, I couldn't start this yesterday. THis could all turn out to be regarded as a joke, so why jinx it, and start it on April Fool's day? Wonderful Guy and I went for a walk before dinner, horrible habit I picked up in Buffalo, and passed onto Wonderful Guy. Hereafter known as WG. Anyway, walking through Central Park, looking for signs of spring, and it started to pour. I mean, buckets! We ran under the lees of the Delacourt, and had a few meaningful moments....woohoo! WG is THE most kissable, or, as his folks would say, snoggible, fella! Not at all the cold, proper Brit! Were on our way out of the park, when we had to detour...lots of yellow police tape around a clearing, something covered in a tarp, lots of police and folks with CSU on the back of thier jackets. All were soaked, as we were, looking totally pissed off. Heard one cop, tall, dark and handsome (hey, I can look!) was yelling at a uniformed cop, not to walk where he was walking. One black lady, looked to be the boss, standing off to one side, under a wide umbrellla, the only person there who looked as if she was cool, calm, and collected. Figured it was another drug murder. What is going on in this city? Every day, someone's killing someone else. WG said he's about ready to pack it in, and head back to London. I may join him. Might just contact my lawyer (well, I just bought a townhouse, so I guess I can say, I have an attorney!) about seeing what is required to live and work in the UK. Although, if Mystery Theater on PBS is to be believed, the crime rate in the UK is as bad as it is in the US. Well, if Detective Chief Inspector Tennison wants to come out of retirement, I'll move to England. REad in the Times, that there's a possibility that the 2nd in charge at the DA's office, is going to take over as DA soon. Just a small blurb. The Ledger had a huge story on it...seems this guy, Jack McCoy, rides a motorcycle all over, has affairs with his coworkers, has been known to drink judges under the table, and plays darts. The Ledger seems to think he's the man. Well, what about his stats as an attorney? If he's drunk all the time, what kind of DA is he going to make. I'm just sayin' here....

The gent's name is Jack McCoy, the interim DA who replaced the regrettable Arthur Branch, whose political ambitions went down in flames when he was defeated in his bid for AG in the primary earlier this year. McCoy is saving the taxpayer's money -- and gas -- by riding his own wheels to work. Can't help but wonder if he didn't take the limo to Gov. Shalvoy's reception the other day, though--a tux is not part of the standard riding gear. There is no problem that cannot be improved by effort, and no effort that is too paltry to be worth undertaking. ~Sam Waterston

Posts: 404 (05/26/08 05:49:00) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Ok, rumors around the blogosphere is that our riding DA took the people for a ride when he hopped a 747 to LA to visit his daughter, new to a law practice in San Diego. Being a naturally suspicious tiger, Tammany has done some checking, and have found these facts: 1. McCoy was at a conference titled: The Constitution and the Patriot Act--How to Balance the Two In Your County 2. Said conference was in Los Angeles at the City Building and McCoy was present for all sessions, making several pointed comments on the Patriot Act and the role of the Feds in local investigations, according to my source, an ADA from LA. To quote: "At times it appeared McCoy was having fun baiting the San Francisco DA, who is decidedly against the use of the Patriot Act. They did finally come to consensus that neither liked the Feds interfering with local cases, though." 3. There was only one dinner McCoy begged off on--according to my source, to dine with his daughter--unless 'Rebecca' was really a hot date he had on the side. One thing for sure, unlike some politicians, he doesn't need to hire call girls. Rumors have it that the ladies have lined up at his door most of his adult life, including at least one assistant, Diana Hawthorn. If McCoy has an Achilles heel, it is with dalliances with the fairer sex, not with spending the public's money. So the whole corruption rumor is debunked, as far as I can say. Ride on, McCoy. She and he were all over each other-when not at work. At work, it was all hush hush. My buddy kept in contact with the assistant, and used to run into her and McCoy around town once in awhile. Outside work, they didn't hide anything. At work, I guess either McCoy was afraid of the age differance between them, or maybe Hogan Place frowned on workplace romance back then. He never really talked to either about it. She got killed by a drunk driver, and McCoy had a nervous breakdown over it, the rumor goes. BUT...my friend also knows the brother of one of McCoy's last assistants, a woman he was supposed to be sleeping with. She turned out to be gay-and got fired by the last DA. McCoy was mad, and supposedly went round with Branch on it but couldn't get her hired back. When Branch left, the story goes, McCoy tried to get her to come back to Hogan Place, said he'd even giver her back her seniority, but she told him to shove it. Indygal

I was down there, and heard people yelling, screaming is more like it. Saw a lot of folks running away from a building down the street, and looked to see a big cloud of dust. Sirens followed soon after, and I heard from a cabbie, on the way back uptown, what had happened. a load of steel had fallen from a crane, knocked down a wall on the way down off that new building Signal Construction is building (the one everyone said was so gawd awful fugly when the drawings were in the Ledger months ago), and slammed into another building and the street. As we all know now, a dozen people were killed at once, and another dozen died later at hospitals, a few more were treated and released for cuts and bruises and broken bones, and 4 are still missing. This isn't the first time this has happened...and every time, it seems the builder or one of thier contractors is at fault in a major way. The last DA said he didn't want to "hinder economic developement" and never prosecuted, unless he had to. And then, it was always some misdemeanor payable by a fine, no jail time. That made the ensuing lawsuits, always filed by folks who couldn't afford the pricey lawyers, to either drop the suits, settle for far less than they could have gotten for the loss of pretty much everything they owned, pain and suffering, or, as in a few cases, loosing loved ones (remember that guy who woke up, half under a pile of drywall and furniture, to see his wife, her head smashed by a hunk of steel?). This new DA is supposed to not be afraid of anyone, or anthing. He's taken big pharmaceutical companies to court, gun makers, meat packers, amoung others. I've been doing a bit of checking up on him, ever since I saw him at a rally for Darfur, right alongside all us young 'uns, shouting for the UN and everyone else, to do something. Turns out, this guy is more than a good lawyer. He's on the board of Refugees International-as soon as he got the DA job, they asked him if he'd be on the board, instead of just making a decent donation every few months. Hey, can't hurt to have some big shots from all walks of life on your board. He's always on dice runs, for things like Multiple Sclerosis, any cancer you can name, Alzheimer's, Diabetes. FYI, a dice run, is when you travel on your bike from place to place, throw a pair of dice (or, get dealt a poker hand, in which case, its a poker run) and whoever gets the best throw, or hand, wins some kind of door prize. But, people in dice runs solicite donations for the charity, so much for every mile completed. The kind of runs McCoy goes on, generally are all day things, out Long Island, or up the Hudson. Not a bad way, to spend a spring, summer, or fall Saturday! I want to see him take one of these idiot cost cutting contractors to court, and get them convicted of what they deserve.

Yes, I hope our DA does something to the down and dirty contractors ignoring OSHA and unions and endangering everyone to build shoddy pieces of--Did I hear that there is a possibility that he may prosecute that latest for wrongful death--depraved indifference? The Ledger hinted about it yesterday. Your info on the dice runs has intrigued me, and so I've done some checking with some friends. The latest stunt was a meal run for City Meals on Wheels--you know, where they take food to shut ins and the like. Seems that they had a group of bikers ride with meals delivered to various hot shots and movers around the city in exchange for a donation. McCoy apparently delivered to the DAs in the other four boroughs, apparently garnering good will with them. A smart move on his part, because of the photo ops involved. You may have noticed them--interestingly enough, the biker delivering the meal always kept his helmet on, so no one knew it was McCoy--at his request. My sources speculate that the Manhattan DA is trying to build good will with his counterparts to help smooth it with upcoming cases--maybe the contractor one. Interesting, because it would have been a PR gold mine for McCoy if he'd wanted it to be. This could be a problem if he decides to run for election--but with what he's doing now, I don't know that he's made up his mind. Last sighting was at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park for Shakespeare's "Hamlet", a blond with cascading curls on his arm. My friend from his office told me the lady was on the faculty at Columbia Law, so there should be no current conflict of interest. There is no problem that cannot be improved by effort, and no effort that is too paltry to be worth undertaking. ~Sam Waterston

I took WG to Central Park to see the fireworks...being the staunch Royalist, he says the the Brits do it better on Guy Fawkes Day. I told him, at least we here in the US of A, shoot of fireworks, to celebrate our Independance, the Brits shoot them off to celebrate some guy who tried to blow up Parliament, and got caught. He called me a rebel colonial, and we agreed to meet for a confrontation later that evening. Which was a draw. No further details, use your dirty minds! BUT...we sat very near the new DA and his party, which seemed also to include a few Brits. WG got himself ingratiated, when he said to one, "I suppose one must put up with this?" the response was, an offer of the usual warm, dark Guinness (yuck...I cannot break WG of his habit of drinking beer warm). The new DA, who is taller, leaner, and better looking in person than in his photos, with a nicer smile, too, gave what can only be described as a groan, then a barking laugh, after which he laid down on the blanket they'd brought, and said something to the heavens about Mad Dogs and Englishmen. His group took this for a cue to start singing, "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window." Not at all on key, and its my opinion, that all had been drinking for a while. With another loud laugh, he sat up, and introductions were made all around. I asked if the famous motorcycle was parked nearby, and DA grinned. "No, we all took the subway." He looked at WG and his Brit, and with a sigh, said, "The TUBE, to you." With a conspiratorial wink to me, he added,"You ever get sick of translating? If they're gonna live in this country, at least they could learn the language!" Which brought a lot of laughter. Well, it was a fun night, we all shared munchies, wine, and warm beer, oohed and aahed, and business cards and cell phone numbers were exchanged. One surprise. DA doesn't have a cell phone. "Won't have one, either. Thats what assistants are for. I let them have the cel phones, and raspberries...boysenberries...blackberries, whateverthehellthey'recalled." We all ended the night, in a rather seedy bar, where it seems the DA is a regular. He walked in, and at least a dozen patrons yelled out, ala Cheers, "JACK!" and the bartender had a beer ready for him. A few games of darts ensued, Rebels vs Royalists, with Rebels winning, thanks to the DA. The Royalists insisted on a rematch, in the form of a game of cricket...whereupon DA grabbed one of his party, Mike, and said, "this guy plays cricket...when and where?" I have a feeling, the Rebels are gonna come out ahead, again.
